Teen stabbed during attempted robbery in Wentworthville

Police have appealed to the public for information after a teenager was stabbed during an attempted robbery in Wentworthville yesterday afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 3.30pm today, a 16-year-old boy was walking towards Greystanes and entered the park between Vernon and Lane streets.

When he began to feel uneasy the boy turned around and tried to return to the main road.

A he turned he was confronted by a male who demanded cigarettes and money.

When the teenager refused the offender stabbed him in the cheek and then punched the boy.

The teenager was able to defend himself and throw a punch at his attacker.

When the offender attempted to stab the teenager again, the boy fled from the park while the offender fled in a southerly direction and jumped a fence near the canal.

The teenager was able to get to Lane Street at Wentworthville where he contacted triple zero with officers from Holroyd Local Area Command attending and establishing a perimeter and a crime scene.

The injured boy was conveyed to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition while local police were assisted by POLAIR and a K9 Unit in the unsuccessful search.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about a male described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, about 183cm tall with a bald head and full black beard.

The man was shirtless with tattoos on his chest and left hand, white ‘Adidas’ track-pants, no shoes and three gold teeth. The man carried a black knife with a serrated blade.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
