Teenager arrested after escaping custody, South Australia

A teenage boy has been arrested after he ran off from police in Adelaide this morning.

Police will allege that about 9am on Thursday 7 February, the 17-year-old boy, who had earlier been arrested for breach of bail at Oaklands Park, was being transported by police to a charging station in Adelaide.

When police had to stop their car in Wright St, the boy opened his door and ran off, despite being handcuffed.

Extra police patrols converged on the area, and located the boy soon after in Byron Place.

He will be further charged with escaping lawful custody, and will likely be refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court later today.

The police car had a minor collision with a member of the public's car after rolling forward as officers gave chase. No one was injured and very minor damage occurred to both vehicles.
