Teenager Charged After Crash With Young Girl - Dharruk

A teenage boy has been charged after a child was struck by a moped in Sydney's west.

Just after 1.30pm today (Friday 14 November 2025), officers from a specialist command attempted to speak with a young person sitting on a moped on Popondetta Rd, Dharruk.

As they approached, the young person allegedly accelerated harshly, continued along the footpath when the handlebar of the moped struck a 3-year-old girl, causing a laceration to the head of the child.

At the time the child was in company with a 31-year-old woman who was uninjured.

The young person continued riding without stopping.

The child was treated at the scene by police and NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to Westmead Children's hospital by road and treated for minor injuries. It is expected that the child will remain in hospital overnight for obersvation.

The moped was allegedly found abandoned at a reserve near Luxford Avenue, Whalan, and a 13-year-old boy was arrested about 2.45pm at a nearby residence.

He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he was charged with cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury.

Inquires have established that the moped was allegedly stolen from a Mascot address.

The boy has been refused bail to appear at a children's cout tomorrow (Saturday 15 November 2025).
