Teenagers Charged Over Detonation In Sydney CBD

Two teenage boys have been charged over the alleged detonation of an aerosol can in the Sydney CBD.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 11 December 2025), emergency services responded to reports of an explosion in George Street, Sydney.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were informed that the detonation was followed by a large fireball.

Police were further informed that two males were seen to run from the location immediately afterwards.

There were no reports of injuries or property damage.

A short time later two boys – aged 17 and 14 – were arrested and taken taken to Day Street Police Station.

It will be alleged that an aerosol can was used in the incident.

Both teenagers were charged with possess, supply or make explosive for unlawful purpose and refused bail to appear at a children's court today (Thursday 11 December 2025).

The older boy was remanded in custody until Monday 19 January 2026 and the younger boy was granted conditional bail re-appear next Monday (15 December 2025).
