Teens charged following investigations into attempted carjacking of taxi in Glebe

Two teens have been charged following an attempted carjacking in Glebe this week, NSW Police say.

About 10.15pm (16 January 2017), a taxi, containing a male and female passenger, was on Lodge Street, Glebe, after travelling from Redfern, when the passengers allegedly assaulted the 50-year-old male driver and attempted to steal the vehicle.

As a result of the struggle, the taxi crashed into a number of parked vehicles.

The passengers then fled the scene. The taxi driver received minor facial injuries.

He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics.

Following ongoing inquiries by officers attached to Leichhardt Local Area Command, a 15-year-old boy was arrested at Parramatta, about 11am today.

He was charged with aggravated assault with intent to take motor vehicle and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The boy appeared at a children’s court today and was remanded in custody to reappear on Friday 17 February 2017.

A 16-year-old girl was also arrested at a home in Nowra about 3pm today.

She was taken to Nowra Police Station and also charged with aggravated assault with intent to take motor vehicle and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She was refused bail and will appear in a children’s court tomorrow.
