Teens Invade St Leonards Park for Major Color Run

North Sydney Council

The free event on Saturday, 18 April will see the park transformed into a high energy festival of colour, music and movement, with a colour obstacle run, live DJs and a relay challenge open to teams of friends.

Now in its fourth year, Colourfest has become a standout Youth Week event on the Lower North Shore, drawing young people from across North Sydney, Mosman and surrounding areas.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said the event is designed to give young people something fun and local to look forward to.

"Youth Week is about celebrating young people and creating opportunities for them to connect and feel part of their community," Mayor Baker said.

"Colourfest is all about energy, music and bringing people together. It is something young people can enjoy with their friends, while families can come along and be part of the atmosphere."

Participants can take part in the colour run, join the relay challenge in teams of four or simply come along to enjoy the music and festival setting. The event will also feature prizes, giveaways and free activities throughout the afternoon.

Running from 16 to 26 April, NSW Youth Week celebrates young people aged 12 to 24, with Colourfest marking North Sydney's opening event. The broader program in North Sydney includes a range of youth- led activities at The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, offering hands-on opportunities for young people and the wider community to explore creativity and self-expression.

The Youth Led Sewing Circle is a relaxed, drop-in creative space where people of all ages can sit, sew and make together. Young, fashion-savvy guides will be on hand to offer support, with participants invited to upcycle garments from the clothes swap running at the same time or bring along their own sewing projects in a welcoming, non-judgemental setting.

The Flip Fashion Forever Holiday Workshop is a one-day, hands-on sewing and upcycling workshop for young people aged nine to 18. Guided by eco-minded young fashion creatives, participants will rework pre-loved garments using sewing, embellishment and surface design techniques, with no prior experience required.

The Coal Loader Fashion Revolution Clothes Swap invites the community to celebrate sustainable style through swapping, restyling and mending. The event will feature an inspiring talk and styling demonstration by sustainable fashion expert Nina Gbor.

The creative workshops and clothes swap are delivered in partnership with Slogue, a circular fashion education initiative that uses creativity, sewing and upcycling to empower young people and communities to create, not consume.

Colourfest is delivered in partnership with Mosman, Willoughby and City of Ryde Councils, along with Headspace and NSW Health.
