Following today’s declaration by the Victorian government of a State of Emergency in response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic the Mornington Peninsula Shire has made the following decisions to ensure the safety of our community.

To protect our community, particularly those who are more vulnerable, and do our part to flatten the curve of this pandemic, we are postponing, cancelling or modifying delivery of non-essential services, programs, events and activities.

The following Shire services and facilities will be closed from Tuesday 17 March 2020 until further notice:

  • Libraries in Mornington, Rosebud, Somerville and Hastings, and the Mobile Library
  • Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery
  • Leisure Centres: Pelican Park Recreation Centre, Civic Reserve Recreation Centre, Somerville Recreation and Community Centre, Crib Point Pool and Westernport Gymnastics
  • Tourist Information Centre in Dromana.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said “our immediate priority is keeping our community well. We need to act with responsibility but not anxiety. Therefore, in line with the World Health Organisation’s advice, we are playing our part at the local level to slow the spread of Coronavirus”.

“The prevention we undertake now will help our community – especially those who are most vulnerable.

“The Shire is committed to retaining all essential services during this challenging time. We will keep our community informed as things unfold,” concluded Cr Hearn.
