Territory Labor Government to Fight Commonwealth Health Funding Cuts to Our Hospitals

Minister for Health Natasha Fyles said the Territory Labor Government will fight for the $5 million that the Federal Government has ripped out of Territory hospitals and health services.

This $5 million cut came as a result of the Commonwealth refusing to reconsider their decision to cut Health funding for the 16/17 financial year at the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Health meeting in Adelaide.

The Commonwealth recently changed the rules and effectively slashed funding for services by stealth that the Territory Government has already provided.

Unless the Commonwealth Government reconsiders this decision within a fortnight, all States and Territories have agreed to fight this at the next full COAG which will occur before the end of the year.

Comments form Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:

Territorians deserve the best quality health care thats why the Territory Labor Government will fight the Commonwealths $5 million in cuts to our Hospitals and health services.

The Commonwealth has ripped $5 million from our Territory Hospitals and Health Services, impacting all Territorians, including some of the most vulnerable in the country.

This funding was agreed upon as part of the National Health Partnership agreement. The Commonwealth have torn up that agreement and Territorians are now worse off.

The Territory Labor Government will fight this decision by the Commonwealth Government because Territorians deserve appropriate funding for Health.

I will continue fight this funding cut at the next full COAG on behalf of Territorians.
