Territory Trainees and Apprentices Soar

More Territorians are choosing to upskill through traineeships and apprenticeships, with current enrolments the highest they've been in the Territory in five years.

The Territory Labor Government continues to support these Territorians as they transition into various industries, and acknowledges the important contribution they make to the economy and the community.

The current in-training figures show apprenticeships are up by 16 per cent, and traineeships are up by 23 per cent on the 5 year average.

Currently there are:

· 2,073 trainees in training

· 1,832 apprentices in training

Growth industries for uptake have been community services in health and education, primary industries, business and clerical, utilities, and building and construction.

Traditional trades – electrical and electronics, construction, automotive, mechanical and fabrication and hairdressing – continue to draw in the highest numbers of Territory trainees and apprentices.

At the end of last month, 313 trainees and apprentices graduated in their respective fields.

New enrolments in 2021 climbed by 28 per cent – with 1165 people starting an apprenticeship or traineeship so far, compared to 908 for the same period last year.
