Mark Shelton,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management
Tasmania's emergency services are world class, with leaders of the highest calibre there for us when we need them to support communities through our greatest challenges to keep Tasmanians safe.
This year will see changes to two of the key leadership positions in the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management.
Chris Arnol will be retiring from the Tasmania Fire Service in July this year after six years dedicated to his role as the Chief Fire Officer.
Mr Arnol first joined the Tasmania Fire Service in 1985 and advanced through the ranks before moving to Western Australia in 2009 to drive significant reform as the Assistant Commissioner.
Mr Arnol returned to Tasmania in 2016 where he led Tasmania through the extremely challenging 2018-19 fire season and worked tirelessly to keep Tasmanians safe.
I would also like to recognise Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard, who has played a vital role as the Deputy State Controller through the most significant and extended emergency in Tasmania due to COVID-19.
Mr Tilyard has served Tasmania Police for more than 40 years, and I know his departure will be keenly felt across the organisation.
Both Mr Tilyard and Mr Arnol have provided outstanding leadership, guidance, commitment and advice throughout their distinguished careers.
I want to thank both Mr Tilayrd and Mr Arnol for their dedication and continued commitment to keeping Tasmanians safe.
National recruitment processes for each of the positions will commence shortly.
