Theft of railway detonators in Ballarat

Police are investigating the theft of railway equipment from a car in Ballarat overnight, Victoria Police say.

It is believed an unknown offender/s gained access to a secure depot within Ballarat Central sometime between 6pm on 21 April and 6am on 22 April.

They then forced open a locked storage box affixed to a railway vehicle and stole a chainsaw, motorised wood borer and red toolbox containing four boxes of audible track warning devices.

Police have released images of the devices and canisters they may be held in and have warned members of the public that they can pose a significant risk of harm if mishandled.

If anyone spots the devices, they are urged not to touch them but to instead call Triple Zero (000).

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
