Thieves thwarted after stealing luxury cars

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested two men after they allegedly stole and damaged a number of luxury vehicles in Altona North this morning (9 July).

It is alleged two men entered a car transport and processing facility on Kororoit Creek Road shortly before 7am and attempted to steal several luxury cars.

One of the men allegedly tried to drive a high-end BMW through the front gates, causing thousands of dollars in damage to the vehicle.

He was stopped by a security guard and arrested shortly after by police.

The second male was seen a short time later driving a BMW through the yard.

He allegedly abandoned the BMW before trying to flee in another car, which was subsequently driven into a parked Alfa Romeo.

The man was arrested by police without incident.

A 22-year-old Hoppers Crossing man and 20-year-old Newport man have both been charged with conduct endangering life, criminal damage and multiple counts of theft of motor vehicle.

They will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court this evening for a remand hearing.
