Third dose reminder ahead of Community Vaccination Day

South Australians overdue for their third COVID-19 vaccination dose should check their phone for a text message from health authorities to remind them that double vaxxed is not fully vaxxed.

SA Health has just issued the messaging to reinforce the importance of a third dose in offering the best protection against the virus.

More than 350,000 eligible South Australians – those aged 16 years and older who completed their primary course of COVID-19 vaccination at least three months ago – are yet to book in for their third dose.

Since the launch of the Government’s new vaccine campaign earlier this month, there have been 14,294 third doses recorded and 49,038 fourth (winter) doses delivered. Third doses are mostly taken up by the general public while fourth doses target immunocompromised people.

A Community Vaccination Day will be held tomorrow (Saturday 28 May) in another initiative to boost vaccination rates, to make it easier for members of our community to access the COVID-19 vaccine.

On the day there will be additional places to get vaccinated, with extra pop-up clinics to be set up in primary schools and community centres. No bookings will be required at any of the SA Health sites. The full list of clinics participating can be found here.

A free community transport service – run by volunteers – will also be provided for those who find it difficult to visit a vaccination clinic. A door-to-door service is being offered in select metro and regional areas.

The Community Vaccination Day is another way to encourage South Australians requiring a COVID-19 vaccine to simply walk in, ahead of a shift away from needing to book online.

Availability is now such that SA Health vaccine clinics allow people to walk in without requiring bookings, with clinics transitioning to a fully walk-in model over the coming weeks.

People who have existing bookings are still able to use those bookings, however people are encouraged to walk in at a time of their choosing when the clinics are open.

Bookings for COVID-19 vaccinations may still be required at GP clinics and pharmacies.

Driving home the message to those yet to receive their third dose is vital in making sure that everyone knows being fully vaccinated is the best protection you can have against COVID-19.

We want to do everything we can to boost vaccine rates and help our health care workers, whether it’s a powerful public information campaign or a simple reminder sent to your phone to roll up your sleeves.

A Community Vaccination Day only makes it easier for people to access vaccines, especially to those who need help visiting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
