Third Person Charged in Broadway Officer Assault

A third person has been charged after a police officer was allegedly assaulted during a brawl at a hotel in Broadway, in the Sydney CBD, last weekend.

About 5.40pm on Sunday (31 August 2025), officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were called to a hotel on Broadway, following reports of a group of people at the bar who were yelling offensively at passersby before a brawl ensued.

Police arrived and attempted to disperse the group.

It will be alleged that a 48-year-old man assaulted a male constable. When the constable attempted to arrest the man, it will be further alleged that a 29-year-old man also assaulted the officer.

A third man – aged 18 – then allegedly attempted to hinder police by grabbing the arm of the officer. A short time later, the man allegedly grabbed the face of the same officer and pushed him, before verbally abusing officers.

The 18-year-old man then left the premises.

Capsicum spray was deployed where the two older men ran from the scene but were each arrested after a short foot pursuit.

They have since been charged and remain before the courts.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

Following investigations, about 5.45am today (Thursday 4 September 2025), the 18-year-old man attended Day Street Police Station where he was arrested.

He was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty and hinger police officer in execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 7 today.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
