Third Suspect Charged in Newcastle Armed Robbery

A third person will face court charged following an investigation into an alleged armed robbery near Newcastle in September.

About 3.40am on Friday 12 September 2025, police were called to a licensed premises on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, following reports of an armed robbery.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police district were told a man entered the business and threatened staff with a firearm before leaving with cash on the back of an e-bike being ridden by another person. No injuries were reported.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Mesport with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.

About 11am on Wednesday 24 September 2025, police executed a search warrant at a storage unit in Newcastle West. During the search, police allegedly located and seized a bag containing $30,020 cash. Later that day, police executed a search warrant at a home on James Street, Hamilton, where they allegedly located and seized an e-scooter and a helmet.

On Friday 26 September 2025, a man and woman were charged in relation to the incident. Both remain before the courts.

About 10.20am yesterday (Tuesday 4 November 2025), police attached to the Lake Macquarie Proactive Crime Team stopped a vehicle on Alick Street, Belmont.

Following inquiries, the driver – a 35-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station.

Police will allege that the man tampered with a door at the licenced premises and later returned operating the e-bike used in the alleged incident.

He was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Wednesday 5 November 2025).
