Thirroul Street Fest: Royal Offerings in Wollongong

Wollongong City Council is delighted to bring another exciting community event to our suburbs, with Open Street Festival, Thirroul headed for King Street in November.

Council will partner with Thirroul Arts and Entertainment District (TAED) to deliver a free, all ages, two-day program of street events and activations that will complement the established Thirroul Music Festival taking place on Saturday 29 November.

The two days will see free outdoor performances featuring a mix of local and national artists, local business activations, family-friendly activities, lightingand visual art elements.

Sunday 30 November will see a celebration of our coastal culture with a live podcast, and music highlighting Thirroul's connection to the ocean along with the other activations.

The event is funded through a grant from the NSW Government's Open Streets Program (2025-28) that will allow Council to deliver this community-focused event at Thirroul over three consecutive years.

Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said it is part of a commitment to building a diverse economy, supporting creativity and culture, and increasing public access to arts and events in our city.

"Bringing exciting events to our suburbs is a huge priority for Council and I'm ecstatic to see Open Street Festival coming to Thirroul," Cr Brown said.

"We want to bring fun and vibrancy to our streets and suburbs and, most importantly, we want our residents to be able to enjoy them with their families and communities in their own neighbourhoods.

"Open Street Festival at Port Kembla last year was a terrific event, and events like this provide a great economic boost for the communities in which they're held.

"We want to take these types of events with a celebratory, festival atmosphere to people where they live and to the places they have a sense of community connection to.

"We're grateful to the NSW Government for allowing us to do that in Thirroul in November, and I encourage everyone to get along and enjoy what will be a great weekend."

Part of the NSW Government's $39 million Vibrant Streets Package, the Open Streets Program allows NSW councils to temporarily close streets to vehicles and bring them to life for a day, or series of days, as walkable public spaces for people to enjoy and safely access.

The 2024-25 Open Streets Program delivered more than 130 events in 73 Local Government Areas, including the hugely popular Open Street Festival, Port Kembla in October last year.

Full program information will be confirmed closer to the event.
