The NSW Police Academy welcomed thousands of visitors as they showcased the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available within the NSW Police Force during the 2026 Police Academy Open Day this weekend.
Yesterday (Saturday 26 September 2026), prospective recruits, families, and community members received a behind-the-scenes look at police training and the many specialist roles available across the organisation; with exclusive access to Academy's state of the art facilities, including the gymnasium, scenario village, classrooms, accommodation, dining facilities, and museum, throughout the day.
Attendees enjoyed displays and demonstrations from specialist commands including the Dog and Mounted Unit, Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, Forensic Evidence & Technical Services Command, Crash Investigation Unit, Cybercrime Squad, Youth Command, and Aviation Command.
NSW Police Academy Acting Commander, Detective Superintendent Chad Gillies said the event highlighted the range of opportunities available in the NSW Police Force and generated strong interest in policing careers.
"It was fantastic to welcome so many members of the community to the Academy and share what life as a student police officer is really like," Detective Superintendent Gillies said.
"From meeting our instructors and recruits to exploring the training facilities and specialist commands, visitors gained a genuine insight into the commitment and options that come with a career in policing.
"The level of engagement throughout the day was exceptional and we are encouraged by the number of people who expressed interest in joining the NSW Police Force."
The community will have another opportunity to explore the range of careers available within police at our next NSW Police Force Open Day at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, between 10am-3pm on Sunday 11 October 2026.
