Thousands wait as Ferguson fails

Tasmanian Labor

Thousands of Tasmanians are stuck on crucial waiting lists, Budget Estimates Questions on Notice reveal.

Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said the truth of the health crisis was laid out in black and white in Michael Ferguson's answers.

"There are thousands of Tasmanians on neurology and gynaecology outpatient waiting lists," Ms Lovell said.

"Concurrently there are 2575 category 1 patients waiting for an endoscopy to diagnose serious conditions so they can be treated.

"If Michael Ferguson claims that the health system can meet the 30-day timeframes for these patients to be seen he is dreaming.

"The Health Minister made big promises on waiting lists and he is not delivering.

"Everyone knows there's a health crisis in Tasmania and on every key measure the Liberals and Michael Ferguson are failing Tasmanians."

Neurology

1351 on outpatient waiting list, average wait is 202 days.

Gynaecology

1966 on outpatient waiting list, average wait 154 days.

Endoscopy

5791 waiting in total - 1238 category 3 patients, 1978 category 2 patients and 2575 category 1 patients.
