Three arrested following Newport ram raid

Police are investigating following a ram raid at a grocery store in Newport this morning, Victoria Police say.

It is believed one vehicle smashed through the Challis Street store just after 3am.

A quantity of cigarettes and alcohol were stolen.

A number of offenders fled the scene and then split into another vehicle.

A white Commodore thought to be involved in the ram raid was found after it crashed near the Melbourne Road exit on the Westgate Freeway.

Three men have been arrested in St Albans and are assisting police with their enquiries.

One man has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
