Three Charged in Gold Coast Burglary, Vehicle Theft

Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) detectives have charged three people following a targeted operation under the Queensland Police Service's Operation Yankee Forge.

Around 11.10am on 27 February, officers were conducting proactive patrols in Bundall as part of ongoing investigations into high-harm property offenders linked to vehicle thefts and burglaries across the district.

Police intercepted a black BMW 320I, which will be alleged was stolen from Sophie Avenue, Broadbeach Waters on 22 February. A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene.

It will be alleged two men fled on foot from the vehicle.

Around 12.30pm, police were called to Boomerang Crescent following reports two males had entered a home but fled after being confronted by the occupant.

It will be further alleged the same two men entered another nearby property on Platypus Avenue while attempting to evade police.

A coordinated search involving multiple specialised police units, including Gold Coast Water Police, Gold Coast Rapid Action and Patrol officers and the dog squad, was initiated. Officers located the two men inside a Platypus Avenue property a short time later. Both were taken into custody without further incident.

Police will allege all three offenders were wanted in relation to a number of outstanding property offences.

The 17-year-old Palm Beach boy has been charged with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear before the Southport Children's Court on 11 March.

An 18-year-old Acacia Ridge man has been charged with multiple offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit, enter premises and commit an indictable offence, and enter dwelling with intent in company.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 25 March.

An 18-year-old Crestmead man has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit, enter premises and commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and a warrant for apprehension.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 26 March.
