Three illegal firearms seized during search of property, NSW

Police have seized three illegal firearms following the search of a property in Sydney’ south-west, NSW Police say.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Kelmscott as an ongoing investigation into illegal supply and possession of firearms and drugs across south-west Sydney.

As part of their inquiries, strike force investigators, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad and Liverpool City Police Area Command, executed a search warrant at a property at Austral about 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 March 2018).

During the search, police located three shortened rifles in the back of a ute, which were seized for forensic and ballistic examination.

Officers also seized cannabis, car keys, and other items for further examination.

A short time later, investigators arrested the male resident at a shopping centre at Green Valley.

He was taken to Green Valley Police Station and served Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Orders.

The man was later released pending further inquiries.

Investigations are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to supply and possession of illegal firearms to call Crime Stoppers.
