Four people were lucky to escape serious injury after a three car crash at the intersection of Brisbane and Bathurst Streets in Launceston at 1140am today, Tasmania Police say.

A white Toyota hatch travelling east on Brisbane St has failed to stop at a red light and has been struck by a north bound four wheel drive and a white Holden sedan, also travelling north. The impact flipping the Toyota onto its roof.

The driver of the Toyota, a 19 year-old man from Selbourne, received minor injuries, as did his passenger, a 20 year-old male from Legana.

The driver of the four wheel drive, a 21 year-old Legana man, and the driver of the Holden, a 25 year-old Mowbray man, were not injured. All four were assessed by ambulance at the scene but none required transport to hospital.

Police will summons two of the involved drivers in relation to traffic offences.

Launceston police A/Sergeant Sharee SMITH said police would like to thank members of the public who assisted the drivers at the scene, as well as motorists for their consideration while the road was cleared.

"This is a timely reminder for drivers that distraction is one of the ‘fatal five’ contributors to serious crashes and road deaths, it was very fortunate that no one received any serious injuries in this crash," she said.
