Do you know someone who has made a difference to your community and deserves to be recognised? Have you thought about nominating them for an Australia Day Award?

Council is urging community members to support the 2021 Australia Day Awards and nominate someone who has made a significant contribution.

Maybe they've been an important member of a local community group, organisation or club, provided support to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic or helped maintain our community spirit during these challenging times – whatever is it, now's your opportunity to make sure they're recognised for their efforts.

Council's Deputy Mayor Sue Carpenter said although it's been a challenging year, our community spirit remains strong and the Australia Day Awards are a great way to show our appreciation and recognise those who go above and beyond to help make Murrindindi Shire such a fantastic place to live, work and play.

'We're calling on nominations from individuals, community groups, schools, social clubs and service organisations. There are three different award categories - 'Murrindindi Shire Citizen of the Year', 'Murrindindi Shire Young Citizen of the Year' and 'Murrindindi Shire Senior Citizen of the Year'.

'You can find more information about the awards, eligibility criteria and nomination forms at murrindindi.vic.gov.au/australiaday. Or you can pick up an application form from our Library and Customer Service Centre in Yea, Alexandra and Kinglake. Don't leave it too long though because nominations do close at 5.00 pm on Monday 4 January 2021.

'Take a moment to think about the people in our community and use this opportunity to honour the extraordinary things they do for us and our community as a whole,' Cr Carpenter added.
