TLDMG Stands Down

Townsville Local Disaster Management Group has stood down this morning with all agencies returning to standard operations.

The TLDMG has lifted all current warnings for the Townsville Local Government Area.

TLDMG Chair Nick Dametto said Townsville was well-prepared ahead of the crossing of Tropical Cyclone Koji.

"Thank you to the community for being prepared and following the advice of the TLDMG. As always, we prepare for the worst and hope for the best," Cr Dametto said.

"We are very thankful that the worst of this weather system has avoided Townsville.

"We have been in touch with our neighbouring councils and will be ready to help them as needed.

"I'd also like to thank the Ergon Energy crews working across Townsville to restore power to a handful of homes today and the NBN, Optus and Telstra crews who have worked around the clock to restore phone and internet connections in our northern suburbs."

Cr Dametto said residents could now return their backyards and outdoor areas to normal.

"Thank you to everyone who has cleared their backyards, prepared their livestock and sandbagged their homes," he said.

"We are still in the high-risk weather season, so if you have sandbags at home and they are dry or can be dried out, please store them at home in your shed or on your back patio.

"If your sandbags have been inundated with flood water, please dispose of them by emptying the sand on your lawn and throwing the bags in your residential bin."
