TMAG Hosts Exciting New ABC Series

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) has hosted an exciting new ABC entertainment series, with filming wrapping on 3 December.

Hosted by comedian, writer, actor and presenter Alex Lee, Tonight at the Museum sees celebrity contestants go head-to-head in a series of games inspired by priceless objects from the TMAG collection in a games-based format.

Minister for Arts and Heritage, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the series was the first live-audience, multi-episode television series ever to be filmed entirely in Tasmania.

"Hilariously funny, quirky and pure Tasmanian fun this is a production of which we can all be proud. I was fortunate to be on set for filming and saw first hand the great audience interaction and the stellar performances of our very own TMAG curators," Minister Ogilvie said.

"While there have been reality, documentary and other programs filmed whole or in part in Tasmania, we have yet to see anything quite like Tonight at the Museum.

"It will add to our growing reputation for factual screen production following other shows like Alone Australia, The Platypus Guardian, A Girl's Guide to Hunting, Fishing and Wild Cooking and Eat the Invaders.

"That all tickets for the filming of Tonight at the Museum were snapped up shows how enthusiastic Tasmanian audiences are to support local productions.

"The Tasmanian Government is delivering for Tasmanians and is committed to telling Tasmanian stories that reflect our island's rich and diverse culture.

"This television production draws on the fascinating and often humorous stories that make up Tasmania's cultural fabric."

The Tasmanian Government has supported Tonight at the Museum with a $25,000 Project Development grant through Screen Tasmania and an estimated $210,000 in-kind contribution from TMAG.

Tonight at the Museum will air on ABC TV and ABC iView in 2026.
