The Toowoomba Region's Ambassador and Town Crier Kevin Howarth will have little trouble being heard above the Canberra noise when he competes at this weekend's 36th National Town Crier Championships in the national capital.

Mr Howarth, who has previously won the overall title and the honour of the loudest cry at the 2023 national championship in Maryborough, will line up against the nation's leading Town Criers at the event that is being run in conjunction with the Canberra Burns Club Highland Gathering.

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said he and fellow Councillors wished Mr Howarth every success in the national capital with the competition scheduled for Saturday (October 11, 2025).

"Kevin has a wealth of competition experience, including international contests last year at the prestigious Armada Cup at three venues across southern England and other events in Yorkshire," Mayor McDonald said.

"Kevin is passionate about representing our Region and has performed with distinction at many national competitions, so I'm positive he will prepare and perform to his usual enthusiastic standard."
