The Toowoomba Region's Ambassador and Town Crier Kevin Howarth proved he can be as effective as he is colourful, not to mention loud, by winning four categories at the weekend's 36th National Town Crier Championships in Canberra.
Mr Howarth retained his mantle as Australia's loudest Cryer with a wind-affected, but respectable 92 decibel recording on the day, which was a little off his regular competition level of more than 100 decibels. He previously won this category in 2018, 2019 and 2023.
He showed his all-round abilities by impressing the judges to win the best cry and best media campaign categories.
True to his job title, Mr Howarth was recognised as the best ambassador for his region, winning the Pat Adamson Memorial Award.
A jubilant, but slightly hoarse Mr Howarth, said the titles were a proud personal honour that reflected his love for the role.
"A blustery wind in Canberra blew shade shelters over and also sent our tricorns flying, which made our job more difficult," Mr Howarth said.
