Top dogs PD Jack and PD Koby unleashed, SA

Two of SAPOL’s dogged canine officers, Police Dogs Jack and Koby will shortly hang up the leash, retiring from duty, according to SA Police.

The German Shepherds, both general purpose dogs, have proven loyal crime fighting partners to their handlers, Senior Constable Andrew Ludgate and Senior Constable Jeff Wight.

Acquired from the Queensland Police Service breeding program in 2009, PD Koby was among the first pups put through SAPOL’s Puppy Development Program. He has been partnered with Senior Constable Wight since February 2011, and deployed 868 times.

To date, PD Koby has assisted in the apprehension of 115 offenders, and helped to solve 243 reported crimes.

His counterpart PD Jack came to Dog Operations Unit in January 2010, having been donated by a member of the public. He and Senior Constable Ludgate commenced operational duties in November 2011.

PD Jack had been deployed 863 times, apprehending 89 offenders and helping to solve 148 reported crimes.

Both Jack and Koby will remain with their handlers and their families in retirement, channelling their boundless energy to chase balls instead of criminals.

Their handlers will shortly commence working with their new canine partners to ensure continuity of service for the South Australian community.

Enjoy retirement, Jack and Koby and thank you!
