A Townsville retiree thought he was losing his marbles when he checked his Weekday Windfall ticket and realised he'd snagged an exciting $1 million win.

The Far North Queenslander held one of the two division one winning entries nationally in Weekday Windfall draw 4649, drawn Friday 9 January 2026. Each entry scored $1 million.

"It's a real surprise!" the winning husband shared when we confirmed the bounty.

"I thought I was seeing things or going mental! I told my wife and she immediately thought it was some sort of practical joke. It was hard to convince her!

"It's really hard to believe."

"I didn't believe him at all!" the winning wife added.

"I also thought this entire time that we had won $500,000 instead of $1 million, so it's a lovely surprise!

"Wow! I can't even fathom this type of money. You don't ever expect it to happen to you. You always hear of people winning and think, 'You lucky buggers!'. We're so stunned."

With an extra $1 million soon to land in their retirement savings, the Sunshine State duo shared their exciting plans with their prize.

"We will finally be able to pay off our house and enjoy having no debt!" the winning man shared.

"We can relax and enjoy moving forward, and help our grandson with his future.

"Thank you very much!"

Their winning marked 12-game entry was purchased at Upper Ross Newsagency, T1 1255 Riverway Drive, Rasmussen.
