Townsville theatres closed for repairs

The Townsville Civic Theatre and Riverway Arts Centre are closed for repairs following the unprecedented weather and flood.

The theatre suffered severe damage and Townsville City Council has builders assessing the level of damage to the venue.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said that shows planned for the Civic Theatre in March and April are being postponed or moved to new spaces where possible.

"The Civic Theatre recently had a major renovation completed and many people in the community were looking forward to seeing the venue in action," Cr Doyle said.

"We will be working to reopen both the Civic Theatre and the Riverway Arts Centre as soon as we can.

"In the meantime, we are doing our best to reaccommodate any shows that were booked for these venues in the next two months."

The TicketShop will be in touch with anyone that has purchased tickets to affected shows.

All recovery information is available through the Emergency Management Dashboard.
