The International Trade Network (ITN) invites you to attend its second Trade Skills Exchange event this September: Trade Stats 101!
Trade data is no longer just for trade negotiators and economists. As trade issues continue to grow more prominent and become increasingly intertwined with other foreign policy decisions, the ability to interpret and apply trade data is becoming essential across DFAT.
Join Rob and Serge from the Trade, Investment and Economics Branch (IGD/TRB) for a practical walkthrough of DFAT's trade and investment data tools and where to find them-including dashboards, pivot tables, and the systems that power them (like STARS). This session will also introduce key trade and economic concepts such as seasonality, nominal vs real values, and stocks and flows, helping you avoid common pitfalls and generate more compelling, evidence-based insights.
Whether you're new to trade or looking for a refresher, this session will help you build confidence in using data to support policy, negotiation, and briefing work. No prior knowledge required-just curiosity and a willingness to discover a mild appreciation for graphs you never knew you had.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A and will take place under Chatham House Rules. It will be an online event only.
Please register using the link below.
When: 23 September, 11am-12pm
Where: Online only
Presenters: Rob Hayes (IGD/TRB/CTS), Sergey Putilin (IGD/TRB/TNS)
