Traffic and weather alert - Augusta Hwy, South Australia

The Augusta Highway is closed to all northbound traffic at Port Wakefield for the next half hour or so due to a dust storm affecting visibility.

Motorists are asked to take care and drive to the conditions.

Earlier today the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for people in Lower Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and parts of Mount Lofty Ranges, Eastern Eyre Peninsula and Yorke Peninsula districts.

A cold front is moving across the south and west of the State today bringing strong to locally damaging winds and areas of raised dust. (The bureau says the change is expected to come through Adelaide about 5pm today)

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your property.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
