A man is undergoing mandatory testing after his utility hit a power pole and caught fire at Lakemba this morning, NSW Police say.
Emergency services were called to Canterbury Road about 3am tomorrow, and found the utility had crossed to the wrong side of the road before hitting the pole.
The driver continued to the right side of the road but the vehicle had caught fire. He stopped in the driveway of a business near the intersection with Chapel Street. The driver was not injured.
Fire & Rescue NSW fire-fighters arrived and extinguished the fire, the vehicle had been extensively damaged.
A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been taken to Canterbury Hospital for mandatory testing.
Due to the damage to the power pole, police have been advised Canterbury Road will be closed for some hours while it is repaired.
Westbound traffic on Canterbury Road is being diverted into Chapel Street, and eastbound traffic is being diverted into Legge Street.
