Traffic enforcement operation conducted in Sutherland area - Operation Fume

A large-scale traffic enforcement operation targeting poor driver behaviour has been carried out in Sydney's south.

Between 11am and 7:30pm yesterday (Saturday 6 February 2021), Operation Fume, consisting of officers from City South Highway Patrol and the Redfern Region Enforcement Squad, targeted drug and alcohol driving as well as general traffic compliance in the Sutherland area.

During the operation 180 breath tests were conducted. A woman was charged with high range drink driving and another man charged with refusing a breath test.

Police also conducted 153 drug tests. Ten drivers were charged for driving under the influence of an illicit substance.

Charges were also laid for possess and supply prohibited drug, proceeds of crime and drive whilst disqualified.

Officers also issued 81 infringement notices for offences including driving unregistered/uninsured vehicle and exceeding the speed limit.

The community can expect similar operations within the command in the future.
