Train crash at Richmond, NSW

Police are at the scene of a passenger train crash in Sydney’s north west, NSW Police say.

Just before 10am (Monday 22 January 2018), the passenger train was travelling to Richmond Railway Station, when it crashed into a buffer at the end of the line.

The train was reportedly slowing to stop at the station.

A number of injured passengers and two employees, including the driver, have been treated.

Eleven people were triaged and treated at a nearby oval. Five people remained on the train where they were treated before also being triaged. No one was trapped.

Sixteen people have been taken to hospital with varying injuries. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Police and Sydney Trains are trying to determine the cause of the incident.

East Market Street is currently closed between March and Windsor Streets to assist emergency services. Local traffic diversions are in place.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
