A man and woman have been arrested after a Nissan Patrol drove on the wrong side of the road, on a train line and into a dam in Glenroy early this morning.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle driving contraflow to traffic on the Ring Road about 2.20am.

The vehicle left the Ring Road and continued to drive dangerously on Broadmeadows streets.

Officers deemed the Nissan to be a serious risk to the public and called a pursuit.

The vehicle continued to drive dangerously along a railway line near Sydney Road.

An alert was called for any train that may be approaching the area to halt.

Police lost sight of the vehicle in the vicinity of the Northern Memorial Park.

A search of the area located the Nissan in a dam.

With the assistance of the Dog Squad, a man alleged to be the driver was located hiding in water nearby.

The man was arrested and treated for a bight mark.

A woman, alleged to be a passenger of the Nissan and wet from the waist down, was also arrested in the area.

Both will be interviewed by investigators today.
