Toowoomba Regional Council has this week resolved to offer renewed leases to users of the Toowoomba City Aerodrome, while also locking in future landing fees at the facility.
At this week's Ordinary Meeting of Council, Councillors resolved to offer surety to users of the aerodrome by offering renewed leases and setting new landing fees which were determined by benchmarking the Toowoomba City Aerodrome with similar facilities across Queensland.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said Council recognised the importance of the aerodrome to the Region and was committed to supporting users of the facility.
"The Toowoomba City Aerodrome plays a critical role in supporting Toowoomba's general aviation sector, charter services, emergency operations, and specialist maintenance businesses, which together contribute significantly to local jobs and regional connectivity.
"Council's ongoing investment, planning and partnership with industry will ensure the aerodrome continues to grow as a valued economic driver for the Toowoomba Region," Mayor McDonald said.
"We have taken on board feedback from stakeholders at the facility and will offer renewed 30-year leases (10+10+10) to leaseholders as their respective leases fall due for renewal.
"Council undertook an independent market review, which determined fair market-value for the lease rates and terms and by which Council is legislatively obligated to consider when setting lease terms.
"Council has also removed a previous early termination clause, which will provide additional confidence to leaseholders to invest in the aerodrome and grow the economic benefit associated with the facility," he said.
Councillors also considered a separate report on 2025/26 landing fees.
"Councillors used benchmarking and independent assessment as well as feedback from users of the facility and has set landing fees at $13.50 per tonne for all aircraft under or equal to 5.7 tonnes and $16.50 per tonne for aircraft above 5.7 tonnes.
"Council determined these landing fees to be fair and reasonable to users of the facility while meeting Council's financial obligations to the broader community," he said.
To aid transparency, Council also resolved to make public a monthly 'Toowoomba City Aerodrome Recommendations Tracker' report at each Ordinary Meeting of Council from the September 2025 Ordinary Meeting.
Direct engagement between TRC and users of the aerodrome facility will continue through the Toowoomba City Aerodrome Advisory Committee.
