TRC reverts to normal practice at dog off-leash areas

Toowoomba residents and their dogs will enjoy new freedoms this weekend when temporary restrictions requiring dogs to be on a leash in an off-leash area are lifted.

Toowoomba Regional Council Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said normal rules would apply at the city's dog off-leash areas from tomorrow (Saturday, May 23).

"The temporary restrictions requiring all dogs to be retained on a leash were introduced in early April to ensure safe social distancing requirements could be maintained at Council's dog off-leash areas in line with state and federal government Coronavirus regulations," Cr McMahon said.

"Given the recent easing in restrictions, it is sensible to allow normal rules to apply for dogs to run off-leash, but supervised, at our designated dog off-leash areas.

"Council's dog off-leash areas are popular meeting places and during this pandemic we must follow all health guidelines to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
