Toowoomba Regional Council's (TRC) 2022 Flood Recovery Program has contributed more than $159 million to Toowoomba Region suppliers.
TRC Economic Development portfolio spokesperson Cr Edwina Farquhar said Council had exceeded its 60% target for supporting local suppliers on the reconstruction Program, which is close to finishing.
Cr Farquhar said Council's major contractors, Georgiou Group (northern area) and Golding Contractors (southern area), contributed a combined $88 million to the Toowoomba Region economy through their work supporting local suppliers.
"This equates to 71% of their construction spend being with Toowoomba Region businesses," Cr Farquhar said.
"I am pleased to see Council is honouring its commitment to keep as much of our spending as possible within the Toowoomba Region.
