Tree planting program sprouts this year

Vic Department of Transport

North East Link

is delivering one of the largest tree planting programs for a major transport project in Victoria – planting at least 2 trees for every 1 removed.

Our early tree planting program well and truly sprouted this year, with trees planted in 14 suburbs including:

  • 3 spots in Yarra River Parklands (Templestowe and Lower Plenty)
  • 3 sports fields (Binnak Park, Ford Park, Greensborough College)
  • 10 local parks (Bulleen, Box Hill North, Blackburn North, Doncaster, Greensborough, Mitcham, Nunawading)
  • 11 local streets (Greensborough).

We now have up to 1500 trees in the ground, with more tree planting to continue in local places near North East Link in 2022.

Next year we'll be exhibiting the Urban Design and Landscape Plan for the North East Link Tunnels, so local people can comment on the look and feel of the project in their area.
