Tree Planting Set for Graham Street

Bass Coast Shire Council will soon begin works on the next stage of the Wonthaggi Streetscapes Project - Tree Planting in Graham Street.

13 Crepe Myrtle trees will be planted on Graham Street, enhancing Wonthaggi by creating a more welcoming and attractive town centre.

The project is jointly funded by Regional Development Victoria through the Regional Development Fund and Council's Capital Works Program 2024 - 25.

Works will be delivered by local contractor, Bass Coast Civil and Excavation Pty Ltd.

Key details

  • Preliminary works start date: Wednesday 27 August 2025 - this includes site and traffic management set up
  • Scheduled construction commencement: Monday 1 September 2025
  • Anticipated duration: 13 weeks
  • Working hours: Primarily night works (9.00pm - 8.00am) to minimise disruption. Some daytime concreting may be required due to delivery schedules.

What's happening

The project includes:

  • Preparing the site, traffic management and service location
  • Removing sections of pavement and creating tree pits
  • Installing Stratavault tree cells with sub-surface drainage
  • Planting 13 Crepe Myrtle trees
  • Restoring the pavement surface
  • Realigning parking bays, including new line marking and signage

What to expect

  • There will be temporary restrictions to car parking in Graham Street - these will be kept to a minimum through night works
  • Some noise, vibration and truck movements can be expected during excavation, concreting and planting
  • Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times
  • Traffic management will be in place to ensure safety for pedestrians and drivers
