Trespass, Damage Charges Filed in Gympie

Police have charged a man over an incident in Gympie earlier this month.

On 1 April, police attended an Oak Street address to execute an arrest warrant when it's alleged a man ran from officers and stole a grey Ford Ranger utility from a group of tradespeople working on a property on Struan Crescent.

It will be further alleged the ute was driven through the campus of an educational facility on Myall Street, before proceeding to Cartwright Road.

The educational facility was placed into a brief lockdown and some fencing was damaged. No one was injured.

The vehicle was later located damaged and bogged in mud on a trail near Tanglewood Close in Pomona.

On 17 April following subsequent investigations, a 37-year-old Kandanga man was arrested at a property on Oak Street in Gympie and charged with trespass, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage and wilful damage to a property which is part of an educational institution.

He's been remanded in custody and will appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on 25 May.
