Trump Assures Iran No Attack On the Way

U.S. President Donald Trump has reached out to Iran assuring that Washington does not intend to carry out a military attack, according to Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, even as Iranian officials remain cautious following recent U.S. warnings.

Iran’s envoy, Reza Amiri Moghadam, said Trump sent a message early on Wednesday indicating he did not want war and had urged Tehran to exercise restraint, Pakistani media outlet Dawn reported.

The message was received around 1 a.m. Pakistan time (2000 GMT), Moghadam said, adding that Trump had asked Iran not to target U.S. interests in the region.

There was no immediate comment from the White House.

The assurance came a day after Trump said he was “watching” Iran closely after receiving a report the killing of protesters had stopped, remarks that Iranian analysts said had softened Washington’s tone but were unlikely to fully reassure Tehran.

Iran has faced weeks of protests over economic and political grievances, while Washington has repeatedly warned Tehran against a violent crackdown, raising tensions despite recent signals of de-escalation.
