TSO lends talents to devilish documentary

Elise Archer, Minister for the Arts

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will provide the soundtrack to a highly anticipated Tasmanian documentary that takes viewers inside the private lives of the State's most iconic species.

Living With Devils is a 52 minute documentary for the ABC from the director of Quoll Farm, Simon Plowright, who spent a year living with Tasmanian devils in order to understand the challenges faced by these unique marsupials.

The TSO is recording the original score for the film, composed by acclaimed Hobart-based composer, Maria Grenfell.

Minister for the Arts, Elise Archer, said the musical collaboration followed on from the success of Quoll Farm.

"Maria and the TSO did an amazing job providing the musical score for Quoll Farm, which was incredibly popular with audiences across Australia during the pandemic," Ms Archer said

"We're excited for the next instalment which will feature a full-size, all-Tasmanian orchestra. To have Tasmanian musicians provide the soundtrack to a uniquely Tasmanian story is something truly special."

Minister Archer said the Tasmanian Government was proud to support the production of Living with Devils which is expected to air nationally on ABC in the near future and has already attracted international market attention.

"Our Government provided $90,000 from our Screen Innovation Fund through Screen Tasmania to support production of the film, which will once again shine a light on Tasmania and showcase the iconic Tasmanian Devil to the world," Minister Archer said.

"Having recently announced an additional $1 million over two years for the Screen Innovation Fund, I remain committed to supporting Tasmanian filmmakers to take Tasmanian stories to the world."
