Turning Bright Ideas Into Real Success For Women In Business

From passion projects to profitable ventures, the City of Greater Geelong continues to support women to grow successful and sustainable small businesses.

We recently wrapped up another Business Accelerator Scholarship Program, which sponsored 10 female entrepreneurs to participate in a 12-month course, led by Business in Heels, to turn their commercial dreams into reality.

Participants gained practical skills in business planning, marketing and financial management in a suite of workshops at council's civic precinct Wurriki Nyal. Mentoring and networking opportunities also helped build confidence and expand professional connections.

Investing in small businesses adds more skills and diversity in the local economy, in line with our Geelong on the Rise aClever and Creative International City - Economic Development Plan 2024-2034 .

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

Launching a small business takes a lot of courage, and we're proud to have programs in place to make the leap easier. With newfound skills and goals, we look forward to seeing these businesses flourish.

Women & Community Life portfolio chair Councillor Melissa Cadwell

Council provides a lot of support for women and small businesses with big ideas, and this program is just one of them.

Business in Heels CEO Lisa Sweeney

It is a privilege to do this work. We love seeing them transform into confident business owners, collaborators in the community.

The program gave me clarity and confidence to value my services properly, streamline my workflow and connect with other local business owners – all of which has made a real difference.

Elly Mirkovic, owner of Complete K9 Training

The program has been a real turning point. I've gained the confidence to structure my business, set clear goals and back the value of what I offer. Opening up a training facility has been amazing, allowing me to run more group classes and create a little community.
