Turning Cyclone Clean-up Into Community Benefit

NT Government

Top End gardeners and green thumbs have plenty to celebrate, with free mulch on offer thanks to the Finocchiaro CLP Government.

From 23 January to 8 February 2026, free post-cyclone mulch will be available for collection at the Hidden Valley green waste site.

The mulch comes from 55,000 tonnes of green waste that was temporarily collected and stored at the adjacent Raceway car park following Cyclone Fina, and is now being processed and put to good use.

Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Bill Yan, said he was pleased the material could help Territorians rebuild and refresh their gardens.

"It's an expensive time of year for families, and making this mulch free is a practical way the Finocchiaro CLP Government can help ease cost pressures.

"There are plenty of backyards that were battered by the cyclone, so it's great to be able to give this mulch away to help people rebuild and rejuvenate their gardens," he said.

The Hidden Valley green waste site will be open from 7am to 6pm and will be closed on Australia Day.
