Turning recycled soft plastics into new roads

Recently we told you about how we are trailing a number of different methods to turn recycled materials into new sustainable roads. Last year, REDCYCLE collected 7.47 tonnes of soft plastics from Coles and Woolworths drop of points within the City of PAE, which is equivalent to around 439,200 plastic bags. In a recent trial by the City of PAE and Downer on Short St, Humphries Tce and Beatty Ave, we laid 500 tonnes of a material called Reconophalt, which was made up of the equivalent to 261,500 plastic bags and 8,940 toner cartridges.

This project aligns with our commitment to sustainable transport and roadworks solutions. The use of recycled plastic in asphalt mixes not only helps to deal with an environmental problem, but it also makes our roads smoother, safer and more economical. We'll let you know more about the outcomes in the future.
