TV Signal Disruptions Hit Broadford Area

Free-to-air TV reception in Broadford and surrounding areas is still being affected by the January bushfires.

The fires damaged the Mount Alexander transmission site, which supplies the signal to the Mount Hickey transmission tower. As a result, services are currently operating under a temporary signal arrangement while repairs continue, and some channels are broadcasting differently than before the fires.

Temporary signal arrangement in place

A temporary retransmission solution is operating at Mount Hickey using an alternative signal source from Mount Major while repairs to the Mount Alexander site continue.

Services have been restored under this arrangement, however some residents may need to re-scan their television to access all available channels.

What do I need to do?

  • ABC and SBS channels should be working as normal and should not require re-scanning.
  • Commercial channels (7, 9 and 10) require a re-scan on your TV or set-top box.
  • Some households may need to complete more than one scan if all channels are not picked up on the first attempt.

When the Mount Alexander transmission site is fully restored, services will return to the original signal source. At that time, residents will need to re-scan again.

Other ways to watch TV

If you have a smart TV or internet-connected device, free-to-air content is also available through streaming apps provided by each major network.

These can be accessed on:

  • Smart TVs
  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets
  • Desktop or laptop computers with internet access

We will share further updates if there are changes to the current transmission arrangements.
