Twin girls die in house fire at Batlow

Two children have died following a house fire in the state's south west earlier today.

Shortly after 11am (Monday 18 May 2020), emergency services were called to a home on Mayday Road, Batlow, following reports of a house fire.

Two three-year-old girls, believed to be occupants of the home, were pulled from the house by officers from Fire and Rescue NSW.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the two girls died at the scene.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze and officers from Riverina Police District established a crime scene.

Inquiries have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the fire; the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Local detectives are being assisted by the State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad's Arson Unit.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
