Two arrested after attempting to run police off the road near Nimbin, NSW

Two men have been arrested for drug offences and allegedly attempting to run police officers off the road at Stony Chute yesterday, west of Nimbin, NSW Police say.

About 1pm, (Sunday 18 February 2018), Nimbin police were travelling along Stony Chute Road after receiving information about a possible cannabis crop in the area.

As police were driving along this road they noticed a Mitsubishi Triton travelling towards them. Police signalled for the car to stop and it is alleged the Mitsubishi continued towards them attempting to run the police car off the road.

The car eventually stopped and police arrested the driver and his passenger.

Police located a cannabis crop nearby and seized 50 mature plants.

The men, both aged 24, were taken to Lismore Police Station. The driver was charged with cultivate prohibited plant, possess prohibited drug and use weapon to avoid apprehension.

The other man was charged with charged with cultivate prohibited plant.

They were both granted conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on 12 March 2018.

Investigations are continuing.
